Home Reading – Regular Readers
Stoneferry Primary has a reading incentive named Regular Readers. Each child’s mission is to read at home at least 3 times a week. Each time a child reads and has their journal signed by an adult, they will receive one star on their rocket bookmark. For every 15 stars, a child receives a small prize. When their bookmark is full (30 stars) they also receive a VIP library pass and get to keep their bookmark.
In addition to this, each class has their own target to reach. For example, if 80% of children in Year 1 read at least 3 times a week they will be able to choose from a selection of rewards such as juice and biscuits or extra play time.
To help this, we have introduced reading buddies across the school and have enlisted parent volunteers to help hear children read.
